Working with products that treat waste is something I look forward to every day

Sebastian Mathews, Lead Product Engineer, joined Evac in January 2018 and has technical responsibility for Evac’s wet waste product stream. He is located in Espoo, Finland.

“My normal workday includes answering technical questions related to food waste systems like food waste collecting stations, food waste tanks and our novel Evac HydroTreat system,” Sebastian explains. The variety of tasks and the purpose of Evac’s business make him happy and highly motivated.

“I am proud that we are building systems that have a positive impact on the whole society. We treat all kinds of waste, minimize the carbon footprint of our customers and innovate products that are energy efficient.”

Sebastian likes the challenge of problem-solving. “At Evac, we work with different sets of waste, which are difficult to handle and treat. We ensure that there is nothing to waste according to our motto in the products we develop. This whole challenge of working with products that treat waste is something I look forward to every day.”

Continuous learning is a crucial part of the job. “During the past months, I have learnt much about the HydroTreat system, which is our new, innovative technology. The system is quite new, and I have learnt for example how we need to change parameters for the system when we install it on a ship. There is a continuous development in mechanical, electrical and automation side involved.”

In his spare time, Sebastian enjoys outdoor activities such as running, hiking and playing football. During the winter season, he picks up his indoor hobbies of making videos, adding VFX and playing some video games. “I change my hobbies according to the seasons here in Finland.”

“One of my core strengths is getting to know my colleagues outside the work-related topics. I communicate with others and make my workplace a more fun place to be in. Maintaining a positive attitude within the team by encouraging and supporting colleagues are a few things I do to make a positive difference.”
