I am the chief circular economy and dry waste expert at the Evac Research Center in Finland. In my role, I’m developing new, sustainable solutions and services with my colleagues and our partners in the maritime cluster. My job is fascinating and gives me opportunities to learn new every day.

This is really a dream job. It combines sustainability work and my expertise with the circular economy and dry waste management in an interesting marine environment. Sustainability is considered in all we do at Evac: planning, development, and our everyday decision-making, and I truly value that. Protecting seas and striving for a future with no waste is my passion, and I love working for a better tomorrow.

As a person, I’m very curious. I love to learn, research and develop new things. Evac has made it possible for me to learn a lot about the maritime industry and visit the world’s largest cruise vessels to understand better how we could best support our customers in increasing their recycling rates. We can do a lot together to enhance the circular economy in the maritime industry. Currently, the recycling rate is around 20-40%. We believe it could be increased even up to 70%.

My work is versatile, and I can combine both theory and practice in it. Going onboard cruise ships has opened up a lot and given me a great perspective on our customers’ world. Waste management is a little bit different onboard a ship than on land. I have learned a lot about cruise ships and their operations related to waste management.

Our working environment at Evac is very international; it makes this work rich. I can warmly encourage people to join maritime-related companies as there’s much new development coming up, and you can learn new all the time. I am very happy that the maritime industry has fully woken up and engaged in advancing sustainable development!
