Evac updates its Finnish R&D center to welcome visitors

Evac’s R&D center in Hyrylä, Finland, hosted a housewarming event on February 13th following a light renovation that incorporated showroom features into the space. Customers and other visitors are welcome to explore our innovations in the very place where they are developed.

“Innovation is central to our position as a market leader,” explains Jari Jokela, Head of Research and Development. “In Hyrylä, we work toward the nothing to waste principle, minimizing waste, maximizing resource efficiency, and promoting circularity. Years of field studies aboard customer vessels and collaborations with ecosystem partners have provided valuable insights, and we currently hold 148 patents and 21 filed applications. The site is not a typical showroom. It is an active research and development site. In Hyrylä, we conduct real-life simulations of processes and tests on equipment on-site.”

Showcasing solutions for a future with no waste

The showcased Evac HydroTreat® system transforms wet waste into HTC biochar, a biogenic fuel for energy production, reducing waste volume by up to 90%. Evac is also investigating its use as a fertilizer, further advancing circular economy principles by closing the loop.

On display is Evac’s range of vacuum sanitation solutions, including the latest addition, the Evac Optima® 7, which offers exceptional water savings—using 90% less water than a traditional gravity toilet.

Also on display is the Cathelco USP DragGone™. It leverages the latest ultrasonic antifouling technology to combat hull biofouling, reducing fuel consumption and associated emissions by up to 13%.
