Evac wins four categories in the Ship Technology Excellence Awards

Evac Group, a leading provider of innovative and sustainable maritime technologies, has been recognized with four awards in this year’s Ship Technology Excellence Awards, one of the largest and most widely recognized programs in the marine industry.

Evac has been awarded in the Innovation, Product Launches, Research and Development, and Environmental categories for its significant contributions to maritime sustainability and technological advancement.

Evac Group’s Cathelco USP DragGone™ system won the Innovation award for its patented, non-toxic biofouling prevention for vessel hulls. Biofouling presents a significant challenge for the shipping industry, increasing drag, fuel consumption, and greenhouse gas emissions while also posing a threat to marine ecosystems through the spread of invasive marine species. The Cathelco USP DragGone™ system addresses this issue, achieving up to a 13% reduction in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.

The Product Launches Award recognized the market debut of the company’s transformative Evac HydroTreat® system for onboard wet waste treatment. This revolutionary technology processes food waste and bio-sludge sustainably, aligning with the maritime industry’s push towards circular economy practices. The increasing demand for climate-friendly, non-incineration-based systems highlights the solution’s market acceptance and its capabilities to reduce the carbon footprint of passenger ship operators.

Evac’s dedication to sustainable solutions through its in-house innovation of Evac HydroTreat® garnered the R&D award recognizing the technology’s scalability and broad applicability even beyond the maritime industry. The Environmental award was secured for the solution’s significant waste volume reduction and climate impact by transforming wet waste into HTC biochar that aligns with global sustainability efforts. Evac HydroTreat, reduces CO2 emissions by 80% and cuts waste volume by 90%. A 5,000-person cruise vessel can save up to 250 tons of diesel annually.

Evac solutions exemplify the maritime industry’s potential to overcome environmental challenges through ingenuity, dedication and collaboration, setting sail towards a cleaner, more sustainable horizon.

“We are extremely proud to be recognized in all four categories. Evac strives to pioneer the sustainability transformation of the maritime sector, and our innovations reflect that ambition. Our Cathelco USP DragGone™ and Evac HydroTreat® solutions role model how innovative engineering and sustainability work hand in hand to reduce environmental impact while improving operational efficiency,” says Björn Ullbro, CEO of Evac Group.

“The recognitions are a testament to the dedication of our entire global team and the trust our customers place in us. Together, we navigate towards a cleaner, more sustainable maritime industry, one groundbreaking solution at a time,” Ullbro continues.

The Ship Technology Excellence Awards celebrate the greatest achievements and innovations in the shipping industry and recognize the people and companies that drive sustainable change in the industry.
